3. Aloe Cottage, Prince Albert
The "Mad Max" watchtower in the front of this rustic self-catering cottage, which has a wonderful arty Karoo vibe to it and quirky décor elements (like a braai constructed out of an old milk urn), begs to be scaled. Because there is also a single bed, despite its tiny size, it is ideal for single travellers, couples, or a family with one child. There is a flatscreen TV with Netflix, as well as all the essentials for self-catering in the kitchen. They allow small dogs by arrangement but keep in mind that there are no fences around the cottage and that there are lots of intriguing sights, sounds, and places for your dog to investigate.

4. Oewerzicht Farm Cottages, Greyton
There are numerous fully equipped self-catering cottages, decked up safari tents with shared kitchens, and grassed campsites with power outlets, braai pits, and contemporary ablution facilities. The farm has hiking routes and a tough 25-kilometer mountain bike trail, making it perfect for this activity. The big grassy areas are great for youngsters and dogs to run around on, while the more active can spend their days swimming, tubing, canoeing, or fishing. The towering folds of the spectacular Witzenberg mountains that surround Tulbagh provide the ideal backdrop for sunrises, sunsets, and everything in between.
